WG:How do you compare 2days state of hiphop 2 that of the early n mid ninetys.

SYG:. Well, in the 90's you had to be on top of your game to shine due to the limited resources that there was to distribute your music. WG:What are some of the projects u have goin on/mixtapes/albums.etc.

Also, I have an EP available exclusively on MySpace called "Furious Styles" where I take it back to the essence of Hip Hop. DJ AK INTERVIEW

WG:Hey whatz good DJ AK,first off jus wanna thanku 4 takin part in this interview, tell us a bit about yoself n where u represent

Ya welcome dawg. Well I'm Dj AK, french producer & talkbox player, comin from tha East Side of France, Lyon, 69.

WG:What made you wanna get in2 the rap game

I get in the rap game by listenin old school gangsta rap, like 2Pac, Snoop, tha Dogg Pound, Dre, Mack 10, E 40...

WG:Tell us about some of the artists you have collaborated with

Well I collaborated with Knoc Turn'al, Goldie Loc, Spice 1, Big Syke, Califa Thugs, Mr Shadow... and right now I'm workin on a Daz Dillinger album.

WG:How do you compare 2days state of hiphop 2 that of the early n mid ninetys

It became a big bullshit nowadays, I mean radio killed gangsta rap & G-funk, all you can hear is commercial shit & even old school gangsta rappers are doin that shit. But I hope it will change soon.

WG:which artist do u respect the most in hiphop 2day

It's hard cause like I said before, I feel like it ain't no real hip hop artists today, everybody's doin the same shit, but yeah people like Big Syke, Knoc Turn'al, keepin it real & they're comin with some bad ass shit soon.

WG:What are some of the projects u have goin on/mixtapes/albums.etc

I'm workin a Daz Dillinger album that I produced 100% on Gangsta Zone Recordz. Plus I'm workin on the new Pass Pass album "West coast all stars", & the next SurSilvaz y Playaman "Internacional".
Plus I've produced some beats for Big Syke's album, next Thug Life Outlaws album, Spice 1, and the next Low Profile "West Coast Affiliate".

WG:What would u like 2 accomplish in the next year

I'd like to produce beats & talkbox for the best west coast artists & try to get back to some real g-funk shit like it was in the ninety's.
Bein recognize as a reference producer just like Battlecat & Fredwreck... That's my dream lol.

WG:Was u eva involved in gang violence

No, never, I'm doin music & I don't believe people who said "I'm a real gangsta..." & they are doin music. When you are a real G, you ain't got no time to do music, you got to take care of your business & it's a full time job.
Maybe they were G's before, maybe they've been involved in gang violence, but since you hear them on the radio or see them on TV, they are nuthin but rappers lol.
I think it's more like a game, just like actors, it makes sales CD, cause young people think it's real, they feel like they are G's cause they are listenin to gangsta rap...
And I play this game too lol, cause I got to, when I do a talkbox hook for people like Low Pro... I can't say "I love flowers & birds..." lol. I have to play the gangsta rap game.

WG:What advice do you have for rising westcoast artists

Don't try to get on some down south shit, or Hi-Fi shit, just keep it O.G, g-funk classic like you did before cause that's what created tha west coast rap.

WG:Do you have any shows/tours lined up for 09

Yeah I'll be in Japan in April, from the 1st to the 5th. With my group Pass Pass & with Big Syke. It will be a bad ass show so all the japanes people you have to be there.

WG:Have you checked out westcoastgunsmoke. com

Yes I did, keep doin ya thang homie.

WG:What was the last album u bought or downloaded

Honestly like I said before, it's been a while since I didn't like a west coast rap album. So the last album I bout was a Gap Band greatest hits, I keep it oldschool funk lol.

WG:homie last of all jus wanna thank you 4 takin part in this interview on behalf of Devious Records/Dubz Up Nation n Hard Livin Ent,do u have any shoutoutz or last werdz

Thank you for that interview.
Hope the real west coast gangsta rap will be back soon.
Peace.

J DUB LUCIANO INTERVIEW

WG: Whatz good homie first off jus wanna thank u 4 takin part on (Westcoast Gunsmoke Vol 1)mixtape,can u tell us a bit about yo self and where u represent

JDL:I go by the name J-Dub Luciano, and I represent the Bay Area to the fullest, the state of California, and those that love this rap shit.

WG:What made you wanna get in2 the rap game.

JDL:I just had the music thing in me. I told my mom to cop Michael Jackson when I was 3, I was spitting along with MC Hammer when I was in 3rd grade word for word, ha, and then Snoop and Dre hit the scene in 92 and the motivation and inspiration has been in me ever since. I make this music for me and my people and if the world likes it, then thats proper.

WG:What other projects do u have goin on

JDL:Right now I'm putting the final touches on my debut solo album, "Welcome to the Underworld." The single, "Shoot That Dummy Juice" is about to be poppin' and we're goin to be pushin this J-Dub shit to the fullest. I'm working on shit with a lot of other artists right now.

WG:What are some of the artists you have collaborated with.

JDL:I've worked with some bay heavyweights like San Quinn and Goldie Gold of the Federation, to my people Amadeus, Decipher, to Sabotawj and them down in San Diego, Syndrome and Mike S out in the UK. We did some shows with JT The Bigga Figga, and I was also featured on Mandatory Hyphy Volume 1 put out by Snoop and JT. The list can go on and on, but I've worked with some talented people so far.

WG:You have a bangin track [Ring Ding Ding Remix] on Westcoast Gunsmoke Vol 1 ft Sabotawj n San Quinn, can u tell us how that track come about.

JDL:Basically I was making a track for my album and I had just met up with Sabotawj out of San Diego through my man Amadeus. I wanted to get Sabotawj on a track and once he spit and once I spit I knew we had a banger. I decided to reach out to San Quinn and open my doors a little bit and he came through and showed us love and did his thing. I freestyled the chorus right on the spot and the rest is history. Watch out for 2 remixes of that track that'll be on my album. One by Mike S, and one by Da Beatzmith out of Boston, Mass.

WG: What do u think about the state of hiphop 2day compared to the early n mid-ninetys

JDL:Rap will never be like that again. I stay current with my sound and my spit, but those days will always be the foundation for my inspiration. There will never be a time like that in hip-hop again. Thats the golden era.

WG:You are also featured on Syndrome's upcomin new album (The Devious Diary)on the track (Rock Da Spot) which has had quite a bit of exposure in UK/Europe,do u have any plans to come out to UK/Europe in the near future.

JDL:I would love to come out there. I know some people out there is feeling me. I've never been out of the US, so that would be a great place to start. If I can get out there, Imma do it.

WG:What was the last album you bought or downloaded

JDL:The last album I bought was The Ball Street Journal by E-40.

WG:Where do you see yourself in the next 5 yrs

JDL:In the next 5 years..skies the limit. Imma push this rap shit to the fullest and whatever happens happens. I know one thing for sure, I'll always be with my family and friends.

WG:What advice do u have for rising westcoast artists...

JDL:Keep your head up, stay grinding, believe in yourself, and don't let the haters stop you. People want to see you fail, but if you got the desire you can succeed. The music industry is hella shady, so stay on your toes and keep a set of eyes in the back of your head.

WG:Last i jus wanna thank u for takin part in this interview on behalf of Devious Records/Dubz Up Nation n Hard Livin Ent,do u have any shoutoutz or last werdz

JDL:I want to shoutout to all the people that support my shit and keep it real. You know who you are. And I wanna say what up to all the fans and to my future fans that are loving my tracks...Shoutout to Syndrome and Mike S for this Westcost Gunsmoke compilation too. Keep it 100!

SHADY RAY INTERVIEW

WG:Hey whatz good Shady Ray,first off jus wanna thanku homie 4 takin part on the Westcoast Gunsmoke Mixtape Vol 1,tell us a bit about yoself n where u represent

SHADY RAY: Well my name is Shady Ray The Sinista born and raised in Inglewood CA, (City Of Champs) I'm a grinder, I've been at this game since a youngin'. My story aint no different from anybody else from any other ghetto. I came up hard, in the streets of Inglewood, better known as The Bottoms. Born a natural hustler. My pops was a NY hustler who moved to the West so I was exsposed to alot of game at a young age. At age 11, my pops got mudered and it was on from there. I was in the streets young, doing dumb shit, bangin', going to jail, hangin' out hustling; you know the typical shit of a lost soul. My passion for music and just entertaining period had me fascinated. I always knew that God had a better plan for me. By age 14, I'm sitting in cyphers with Redrum and Kurupt. By 17 I'm going up to Deathrow Studios, chillin with Kurupt.,watching his grind and watching Pac grind. I knew this is what I wanna do for the rest of my life, make music.

WG:What made you wanna get in2 the rap game

SHADY RAY: The rap game was an outlet for me to express my anger ,my pain ,then my cousin D.J. Wiz Kid, Tommy Boys First Rap artist and my cousin Rich Nice, one of Motowns first artist was in the game making noise. I loved the music and feel I was destined for this. It was written (lol). I had the oppurtunity to be around some of the greats when they were in ther prime like Nice n Smooth, Tu Pac, and the Dogg Pound.

WG:Tell us about some of the artists you have collaborated with

SHADY RAY: Man, I Have done joints with Nice & Smooth, Big Wy, Quan, Bun B, I20, mixtape legend Snagapuss, the late Party Arty, Jay Rock, Redrum 781 Homie. I was on the original Still Tippin. You can google that. The original was Slim Thug, Me, and Chamillionare, produced by Houston's own Big Tyme. I have collaborated with M.O.P, Redman's artist Icarus, Boot Camp Clicks, Louieville Sluggah, Sadat X,Young Lord, Lord Tariq, Corey Gunnz , Lil Flip, Kanye's artist GLC, Shareefa, Gloria Valez, Rob Reef Tula, Purple City, The 5 Footers, Knumskull from the Loonies, Ice T, Kool Moe Dee, and Young Buck. Man I could go on and on.

WG:Now you have worked with a lot big named rappers, how did all that come about

SHADY RAY: I have been fortunate and real recognizes real. With the help of Rich Nice and my own grind and Gods blessing I've been able to mix and mingle and get love and respect from some of hip-hops finest.

WG:How do you compare 2days state of hiphop 2 that of the early n mid ninetys

SHADY RAY: Rap in the 90's had substance. It wasnt about how many cars or money you had it was about skills and originality. Now, you gotta sound like another nigga to get some love or come with some corny shit. Niggaz be shuckin and jiving nowadays.

WG:which artist do u respect the most in hiphop 2day

SHADY RAY: The artist I respect the most in hip hop today is the Dogg Father, Snoop Dogg himself. He's the man. He had it his way and kept it gangsta. He didnt come out of his character and made the world love him through all his trials and tribulations. He maintained and made niggaz like me proud to be west coast artist. He has stayed consistent and lasted through the times, even while west coast aint getting the love they deserve, everybody loves Snoop.

WG:How did u hear about westcoast Gunsmoke Vol 1

SHADY RAY: I got hit up on myspace. They were showing me love and I respected their proffesionalism. They asked me for a joint and I appreciated the love and I was with it. You have to realize we're in a day in age where the west is not given their just do. I had to rock with cats recognizing the real.

WG:you have a bangin track ft Big WY (Boss Music) on Westcoast Gunsmoke Vol 1,who produced that track

SHADY RAY: My homie Bamba Naazar, who also produced the new single for Redman's new album. He's done like 20 joints for me and he's also on the hook. He's an animal.

WG:Was u eva involved in gang violence

SHADY RAY: Man, was I. From the hood, homie it comes with the territory and that's not something I wanna even glorify, feel me. There's too much fakeness going around as it is. I rose above all that like a real man supposed to. Adversity brings out the best in a gee

WG:What advice do you have for rising westcoast artists

SHADY RAY:The advice I would give is to keep grinding, stay true to yourself, and reach for the stars. It's out there for you, just belive and you will achieve. Never give up on ya deams and keep it west coast.

WG:Do you have any shows/tours lined up for 09

SHADY RAY: 2009 gonna be crazy! I got show after show after show , which is a good thing. I got a few videos coming out and it's gonna be a good year.

WG:Will you be takin part on Westcoast Gunsmoke Vol 2

SHADY RAY: man if west coast gun smoke will have me fosho i will be on two three and four its nothing but love

WG:What was the last album u bought or downloaded

SHADY RAY: The last album I bought or downloaded was that new Luda.

WG:homie last of all jus wanna thank you 4 takin part in this interview on behalf of Devious Records/Dubz Up Nation n Hard Livin Ent,do u have any shoutoutz or last werdz

SABOTAWJ INTERVIEW

WG:.First of all homie jus wanna thanku 4 takin part in the westcoast Gunsmoke mixtape Vol 1,tell us a bit about yoself and where u represent.

SABOTAWJ:They call me Sabotawj aka Sabotawjyostyle aka da key 2 da city. I represent dat Rhymeside, Im from Southeast San Diego, Killa Kali, but I rep for my whole city!

WG:.what made you wanna get in2 the rap game

SABOTAWJ:I think it was more of getting into Hip Hop then so much the "rap game". I was always into the culture since I was a youngsta. I wrote my first verse at 12 or so. Before that I was real heavy into the B Boy Element of the culture. As time went by I dabbled in Graffitti eventually finding my strength with emceeing was mad stronger than the rest of my skills. Far as the game goes if I wasn't doing this professionally, I would be making music no matter what my day job was. I always have and always will; music is just in me.

WG:.What other projects do u have goin on

SABOTAWJ:Oh man, dats a whole nother interview haha. Lets narrow it down. This year I released my new album, "Tomorrow Today", and Im currently finishin up the final mixes for my first online only release "Earthtones Wit A Mercury Feel" which will hit the world March 09, its a pure underground record, I like to call it Hardcore Soul. Of course we will be hittin u in da head wit the next volume of Da Cannibus Club: Muzik To Smoke 2 series around Canibus Cup Time!

WG:.What are some of the artists you have collaborated with and how did they come about.

SABOTAWJ:Let's see... as far as names the masses may be more familiar with I have blessed joints alongside, Hussein Fatal of The Outlawz, Raekwon The Chef, Bo Roc of The Doveshack, Chops, King Tee, San Quinn, and a gang of underground fixtures like Lounge Lo, Syndrome, Long Axe of Tha Beggas, Dragonfly of Tha Beggas, Dom Pachino of Killarmy, Napoleon of Wu Syndicate, Blame One, Johaz of Deep Rooted, Masia One, Orko, Odessa Kane, Fudge Dog, and a slew more way too many to name...Im a workaholic ha ha.

WG:.you have a 2 bangin tracks on westcoast gunsmoke mixtape, one of them has features by San Quinn and J Dub,how did that come about.

SABOTAWJ:Thank you, the first collab is from the bay area homey J Dub Luciano I was in the area fuckin wit my doo epeezy out in da epa, and I think we did a show in frisco earlier that same day. I slid out to lace up dat joint wit J and Quinn jumped on and it was a wrap, shit came together real fresh. As for the ride out joint dat was a Mike S Hard Livin/ Da Cannibus Club special haha. I heard bout the mixtape and felt it was the perfect oppurtunity to shout some of my UK fam out on dat right there, the whole process was ill, I felt like the beat already did most of the work for me so half dat is written, da other half just off da top, shit came out hard and in the trunk shit slumps!

WG:.what do you think about the state of hiphop 2day compared to the early n mid ninetys

SABOTAWJ:I can't compare the two, the mid nineties is uncomparable to any other time in hip hop, at least in my eyes.

WG:.you was featured on a track ft Fudge Dogg and Syndrome [Westcoast Luv] which has had quite a bit of exposure in europe and the uk,do you have any plans to come out to uk/europe in the near future.

(Rhenan Supreme said) "Cut the check and we there"
(Sabotawj said) "yeah dat"

WG:.What was the last album you bought or downloaded.

SABOTAWJ:Devin The Dude - Landing Gear

WG:.Last I jus wanna thankyou for taking part in this interview by Devious Records and Dubz Up Nation,is there anyone you wanna shout out or any last werdz

SABOTAWJ: Yeah thanks to Devious, Dubz Up, Peace to Hard Livin, Uncontrollable Rhymesidaz, NGU, Block Exchange and everyone i fucks wit in this music game and all the real thuggies holdin me down thru this drought! Myspacers hit me at www.myspace.com/sabotawjyostyle and webheads catch me on www.sabotawj.com peace
